Indian Translators Association gets recognition from the international community Shanghai: On August 02, 2008 the Indian Translators Association (ITAINDIA) was voted as a Regular Member by the Statutory Congress of International Federation of Translators (FIT) http://www.fit-ift.org , the world’s apex body of translators and interpreters connecting more than 1,00,000 translators
and interpreters across the globe represented by more than 100 translators’ associations coming from 60 countries.
Immediately after its formation, Indian Translators Association was accepted as a Candidate Regular Member to FIT in June 2007 by FIT Council; during the recently concluded Statutory Congress of FIT held on August 2-3, 2008 in Shanghai, Indian Translators Association was well represented by a two member delegation headed by its Founder President, Mr. Ravi Kumar, who presented credentials to the international community which welcomed with open heart the entry of the first ever association from India to FIT, the
world’s apex body that maintains formal consultative relations with UNESCO.
The entry of ITAINDIA into FIT is an opportunity that shall allow its members and the translators community of India to get integrated into the international community and share knowledge and
information with an aim to develop professional standards demanded by the industry, upgrade translationrelated
as well as technological skills of its members and converge on areas of mutual interests.
Immediately after getting regular membership to FIT, the Founder President of Indian Translators Association, Mr. Ravi Kumar took the opportunity to contest elections for FIT Council on August 03, 2008,
where he was voted to be on the Board of FIT Council for next 03 years, till the next FIT Statutory Congress meets in United States of America in the year 2011.
The election of Mr. Ravi Kumar to FIT Council, the youngest Council member, is a testimony of the important role that Indian translation industry plays in the translation industry of the world.
In continuation to the Statutory Congress, and ahead of Olympics, Shanghai also hosted XVIII FIT World Congress, August 4-7, 2008, the organizing partner – Translators Association of China, that witnessed presence of more than 1500 translators coming from 73 countries, provided yet another opportunity for the Indian delegation to interact with translators, interpreters, writers, media personnel and to represent the Indian translators community at the world forum.
