TRANSLATORS COMMUNITY GEARS UP FOR THE FORTHCOMING NATIONAL CONFERENCE

The first forward leap by Indian Translators Association (ITAINDIA) since its establishment was its inclusion as Regular Member of International Federation of Translators (FIT) during the FIT World Congress held in Shanghai, Aug. 2008. After taking this historical step, ITAINDIA has been very actively involved in promoting the Translation Industry of India vis-à-vis Indian and Foreign languages.

 

The next major step by ITAINDIA is the timely initiative of organizing the National Conference on ‘Language and Translation Industry of India: Opportunities and Challenges’ on 17-18 April 2009 jointly with Linguaindia Foundation and with institutional support of Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysore.

 

The National Conference has the objective of extending a platform to translators, translation service providers, technology partners, quality control auditors, terminologists, government officials and diplomats to engage in a dialogue and get benefited by networking with each other and share information and knowledge in areas related to globalization, localization, CAT tools, quality standards, terminology management and professional practices in context of translation and translation services in India. Till now, the response received by ITAINDIA has been truly overwhelming not only from the translators’ community but also from the government and corporate sectors. It is expected that more than 300 delegates from India and abroad shall be a part of the conference.

 

Since its announcement, the conference is receiving overwhelming response from various sectors and  till date more than 40 specialists in language and translation areas have confirmed their participation as Speakers. In addition, the Secretariat has already registered more than 100 delegates who shall be attending the conference.

 

The conference shall witness presence of well known academicians, diplomats and experts including Dr. Shankar Basu, Dean-School of Languages, JNU, New Delhi; Dr. R.P. Bhatnagar, Pioneer in Translation Studies in India & former Professor–English Department, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur; Dr. P.P. Giridhar, Head – Translation Research Group, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, Dr. Anil Dhingra, Professor for Translation and Interpretation, School of Languages, JNU; Prof. Ana Isabel Reguillo Pelayo, Education Head, Instituto Cervantes; Dr. Vijay K. Malhotra, Computational Linguistics Expert and Ex-Director Hindi Bhasha, Indian Railways, Government of India; Ms. Laurence Bastit, Expert Interpreter and Member - International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), Geneva, Switzerland; Dr. V.N. Shukla, Scientist and Director, C-DAC Noida; Dr. R.M.K. Further, LinguaIndia foundation - partner in the event has invited international experts namely Dr. Roger T. Bell, Pioneer of Translation Theory and Ex-Professor of University of Westminster, UK; Dr. Gabriele Sauberer, Sec. Gen.-TERMNET, International Network of Terminology, Austria; Dr. Peter Jones, Quality Lead Auditor & Deputy Director-Austrian Standards Plus Certification, Austria to conduct an exclusive pre-conference workshop on Terminology Management, Quality Standards, Project Management, Professional Practices and CAT tools. 

 

The days to come shall hold many new things to unfold. With the ever-increasing enthusiasm, fervor and zeal, the Conference is expected to give a boost to the professional status of Indian translators’ community and most importantly provide a base for getting due recognition for the Indian Translation Industry.
